Successful European workshop on cross-border data for decision-making
On 15 October 2025, during European Week of Cities and Regions, TEIN (University of Potsdam and Euro-Institut) organised a workshop hosted by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).
Matteo Berzi (JRC) presented the data platform for border regions, which provides local statistics and data on cross-border interactions in all European countries. Clarisse Kauber (Euro-Institut) then spoke about how cross-border public services in the Upper Rhine region collect data, from its emergence to its implementation. Finally, Claire Duvernet (BBSR) announced the initial results of a mapping project on the accessibility of public services such as hospitals by public transport and car. The discussion with an audience of 35 people from all over Europe was very interesting and highlighted the need to better analyse existing cross-border flows and assess future potential in cross-border living areas.
The European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) is an annual event held in October in Brussels, bringing together stakeholders from cross-border regions across Europe, European fund management authorities, the European Commission and the Committee of the Regions: https://regions-and-cities.europa.eu/
