TEIN is pleased to present the special issue of the Journal of Advanced studies on Borders, Cooperation and Development (ABCD Journal), dedicated to the TEIN Annual Conference 2025 “Beyond Borders: Culture, Language and Identity in European Integration”.

Published by the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives (CESCI), the issue features a selection of peer-reviewed papers originating from the conference, about European integration and cross-border cooperation as well as the many ways in which culture, language and identity influence our perception of borders, borderlands and Europe itself.

This new edition consolidates the collaboration between TEIN and the ABCD Journal – following the first regular issue, which featured contributions from the international conference “What Future for the Concept of Borderless Europe?” organised by the LUPS–CESCI Research Group on Cross-Border Cooperation and TEIN in May 2025. TEIN’s mission is indeed the same as ABCD’s: to unite theory and practice, and, through this, to influence EU policymaking.

We hope that the contributions will encourage further debate about the relationship between borders, culture, language, and identity, while also inspiring new forms of cooperation across Europe. We would like to thank all the contributors and the ABCD Journal editors for the collaboration!
